Save The Theatre
The Galveston Scottish Rite Cathedral needs your help! GTAP has been proud to call this building home since it’s induction. Part of our mission has always been to utilize it’s historically recognized vaudeville era theatre and exhibition halls to bring the public education, event space, and various creative performances. Unfortunately, this beautiful building is now in need of repair.
During Hurricane Harvey, winds over 100mph and more than 5 feet of rain over 5 days tore open the theater’s fly gallery. Stormwater severely damaged the walls the scenery drops and the stage lighting. The walls are now held together with steel nets and wires and urgently need to be repaired and sealed. The original, hand-created drops need to be professionally removed and restored. The lighting strips need to be rewired, the lighting panel overhauled, and the power supply repaired and or replaced. These repairs will preserve this remarkable stage for many years to come. The cost estimate is $2 million to save the last functioning vaudeville theater in East Texas.
This is no simple task. We want to preserve this building for years to come, and are asking for your help in doing so. We are trying to raise as much as we can so that the necessary repairs can be made.
